Announcement - Mark Schisler Has Joined BLG's Intellectual Property Group

BLG is pleased to announce that Mr. Mark Schisler, a Registered Canadian Patent Agent, has joined the Firm’s Waterloo Region office. Mark is an experienced Patent Agent and has been preparing and prosecuting patent applications worldwide since 1998.


Mark’s practice concentrates on drafting patent applications and license agreements in the fields of computer technology and computer software. He has worked with a wide variety of clients from start-up companies to established companies, helping them to manage and protect their IP portfolios. In addition, Mark provides non-infringement opinions and due diligence reports, and advises venture capital investors on IP-related issues. Click here to see Mark’s full bio.

Mark is a member of Communitech, a member-led organization driving the growth and success of Waterloo Region’s technology sector. experienced intellectual property lawyer, has joined the Firm’s
Waterloo Region office. Neil brings a great depth of experience
in Canadian, U.S. and international intellectual property law to
the Firm and is also a qualified Canadian and U.S. patent agent
and Canadian trade-mark agent.


Neil’s practice concentrates on IP licensing, the generation, prosecution and management of IP portfolios and on IP transactions in the fields of computer technology, software, telecommunications, electronics, medical systems and equipment and financial models, business methods and mechanical devices and systems.

In addition to his North American expertise, Neil spent four years in Japan where he worked as a technical consultant at a patent firm and as a patent and legal advisor to a private company. BLG is pleased to announce that the law firm of Shortt Hanbidge
Richardson & Welch has officially joined the Waterloo Region
office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. David Shortt, Ken Hanbidge, Larry Richardson and Lorene Welch became part of BLG on January 1, 2008, and will both complement and expand the Firm’s client service offerings in the areas of business law, real estate, and corporate finance.

The four lawyers specialize in corporate commercial business law, including commercial and residential real estate, and wills and estates. All are well-known in the Waterloo Region, having been very involved in local community and charitable organizations for many years.

“The Region of Waterloo is unique. For over 30 years Shortt Hanbidge was a trusted legal advisor and we continue to be just as committed to maintaining the same close working relationship with all our clients as part of BLG,” states Dave Shortt.

David, Ken, Larry, Lorene and their support staff will continue to work from their current office (now BLG) at 7 Union Street East in Waterloo until early April 2008, when both offices will relocate to Waterloo City Centre at 100 Regina St.S.
