Background
Michael Fitzgibbon is a partner in our Toronto office. Michael was called to the Ontario Bar in 1993 after graduating from the Faculty of Law at Queen’s University. Prior to that, Michael attended McGill University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Industrial Relations.

Professional Experience
- Michael has extensive experience advising private and public sector employers in labour relations and employment law matters generally, including complex corporate restructuring issues, collective bargaining, collective agreement administration, employee terminations, structuring severance packages, preparation of employment contracts, workers’ compensation and human rights issues.
- Michael regularly appears before consensual arbitrators and arbitration boards under collective agreements and regularly appears before the Ontario Labour Relations Board on a variety of matters including applications for certification, unfair labour practice complaints and sale of a business and related employer applications.
- Lead spokesperson in collective bargaining on behalf of private and quasi-public sector employers.
- Michael also provides strategic labour relations advice to unionized employers and to non-unionized employers who are subject to union organizing efforts.
- Michael has also designed and conducted in-house training sessions for clients on a variety of labour relations and employment issues including absenteeism and disability in the workplace, union organizing and building positive employee relations in a unionized environment.
Professional and Community Activities
- Teaches Employment Law at the University of Toronto, Woodsworth College.
- Author of a numerous articles and papers on labour relations and employment law issues.
- Chair, participant and panellist in numerous labour relations and employment law seminars on such topics as employment standards developments, human rights, workplace privacy and other related employment law issues.
