Background

Pierre Roger is a Partner in the Ottawa Office. Pierre was called to the Ontario Bar in 1991. He obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (1986) and a Bachelor of Laws (1989) from the University of Ottawa. Pierre practises in both official languages. Pierre is the Ottawa leader of BLG's Litigation Health Law Group. He is also the partner responsible for conflicts at BLG's Ottawa office.

Areas of Practice

• Civil Litigation - with emphasis on hospital defence litigation, insurance defence, professional negligence and personal injury litigation.
• Health Law - advice to hospitals on various legal issues including quality of care issues and issues relating to disruptive physicians.

Professional Experience

• Appeared before Ontario courts in matters relating to insurance, personal injury, medical malpractice and commercial litigation.
• Appeared before various administrative tribunals.
• Appeared in numerous mediations and other early resolution processes.

Professional and Community Activities

• Organized and taught with BLG lawyers the Health Law Course at the University of Ottawa Master of Health Administration Program during the spring/summer 2008 session.
• Regular speaker at hospitals and risk management seminars on medical/legal topics relating to risk management, including: charting, disclosure of adverse events and the effective management of disruptive physicians.
• Lecturer: Past lecturer for several years at the Bar Admission Course of the Law Society of Upper Canada (Ottawa) teaching Civil Procedure.
• Member: Law Society of Upper Canada, County of Carleton Law Association, Canadian Bar Association and l'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario.
• Past President of the AJEFO Continuing Legal Education Committee.

• June 19 and 20, 2008 - Attended and presented to hospitals at Sudbury and Kapuskasing on Quality of Care and Mandatory Reporting.
• February 2008 - Organized and presented at a breakfast seminar on health related topics to Master of Health Administration Students at the University of Ottawa.
