BackgroundMichael MacNaughton is a partner and a member of the Firm's Insolvency and Restructuring Group. Michael was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1986. He graduated from Queen's University in 1983. Areas of Practice - Insolvency and restructuring law.

Professional Experience - Advises lenders, creditors, debtors and insolvency professionals with respect to bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring matters.
- Is an active member of the insolvency and restructuring bar in proceedings in the Bankruptcy Court and on the Commercial List. He has had significant involvement in the following public matters: Abitibi (pulp and paper), SkyPower (energy), CFM Corporation (manufacturing), Grafikom (printing), ABCP, Bombay Furniture (retail), JTI-Macdonald (manufacturing), SAAN Stores (retail), Roman Corporation (manufacturing). GT Group Telecom (telecom), PSI Net (telecom), Air Canada (transportation), Canada 3000 Airlines (transportation), Algoma Steel (steel), Eaton's department stores (retail), Royal Oak Mines (mining) and Confederation Trust Company (financial services).
Professional Activities - Coauthor with Springman, Stewart and Morrison, Fraudulent Conveyances and Preferences (Carswell, Looseleaf).
- Written and spoken on insolvency and restructuring topics for the Annual Review of Insolvency Law, Law Society of Upper Canada, The Canadian Institute, Insight, Osgoode Professional Centre and other publications on topics including DIP financing, insolvency issues in information technology agreements, insolvency litigation, landlords rights insolvency, creditor remedies (settlements, preferences, fraudulent conveyances and oppression claims), proceedings under the Winding-up and Restructuring Act, equitable subordination and substantive consolidation.
- Member of the Insolvency Institute of Canada, the American Bar Association (Business Bankruptcy), the American Bankruptcy Institute, INSOL, the Turnaround Management Association, the Ontario Bar Association (Insolvency Section) and the Canadian Insolvency Foundation.
