Background
Imran Ahmad is an associate at our Toronto office and specializes in the area of competition law and foreign investment review, providing both transactional and general compliance advice. Imran was admitted to the Ontario Bar and Alberta Bar in 2008. He obtained his LL.B. from University of Montreal in 2005 and his D.E.S.S. in Common Law from the University of Sherbrooke. Imran served as a political advisor to L.Gen. the Honorable Roméo A. Dallaire (Ret'd), Senator, and clerked for Justice Edmond P. Blanchard at the Federal Court and Competition Tribunal in Ottawa. Imran also holds an LL.M. in Antitrust and Competition law from the University of Ottawa. Prior to attending law school, he graduated from the University of Montreal in political science and international relations.
Prior to joining Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, Imran worked at another national law firm's Calgary and Toronto offices in the areas of competition and international trade law.
Imran is perfectly fluent in English, French and Urdu/Hindi.

Professional Experience
Imran provides advice on all aspects of the Competition Act , including:
- reviewing merger transactions as well as preparing pre-merger notifications, requests for advance rulings and competitive impact submissions;
- coordinating foreign antitrust filings;
- responding to subpoenas and information requests;
- reviewing and opining on trade practices;
- negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts and merger agreements from a regulatory perspective;
- preparing submissions and presentations to the Canadian Competition Bureau;
- reviewing advertisements, contests and promotions; and
- conducting competition law audits and designing compliance programs for corporate clients.
Imran also provides advice on all aspects of the Investment Canada Act, including:
- reviewing merger transactions, as well as preparing notifications and applications for review;
- negotiating, drafting and reviewing contracts and merger agreements; and
- preparing submissions to the Investment Review Branch of Industry Canada.

Imran is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Law Society of Alberta, the International Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association.
